Give a heart of gold this Christmas and help save lives

Looking for a Christmas gift with a difference? Welsh charity Calon Hearts is inviting people to dedicate a gold heart to someone special this festive season, turning a simple act of love and remembrance into something that could help save lives.

Give a heart of gold this Christmas and help save lives

The charity's annual Hearts of Gold Christmas appeal, running from 1 November to 31 December, gives people the opportunity to celebrate someone they love, remember someone they miss or make a donation in someone's name instead of buying a traditional Christmas present.

The campaign encourages families, friends, businesses and communities to come together during the festive season to celebrate the people who mean the most to them.

By making a donation and leaving a personal dedication, supporters can honour someone special while helping Calon Hearts continue its lifesaving work, including providing free heart screenings for young people, CPR training and community defibrillators.

Sharon Owen, Founder and CEO of Calon Hearts, said:

"Christmas is a time when we think about the people we love, those we are lucky enough to have around us and those who are no longer here to celebrate with us.

"Our Hearts of Gold appeal is about turning that love into something positive. Dedicating a gold heart is a lovely way to tell someone how much they mean to you, or to remember someone who will always have a special place in your heart.

"And if you're wondering what to buy someone for Christmas, why not give a gift that really matters? A donation in their name could help us provide a heart screening for a young person, teach someone CPR or put a defibrillator into a community.

"The people we love never stop making a difference, and through Hearts of Gold, their love and their memories can help protect other families."

Calon Hearts has already screened more than 38,000 hearts, trained over 605,000 people in CPR and helped place more than 37,000 defibrillators in communities.

The charity is particularly passionate about making heart screening accessible to young people, offering free screenings to those aged 15½ to 26 to help identify potentially serious heart conditions that may otherwise go undetected.

As well as making individual dedications, supporters are encouraged to organise Christmas jumper days, festive coffee mornings, raffles and other fundraising activities as part of the campaign.

Sharon added:

"Every gold heart represents someone special, and every donation, however large or small, helps us continue our work.

"We would love to see gold hearts shining across Wales this Christmas, each one carrying a message of love, remembrance or hope.

"Because the greatest gift we can give is the chance of a healthier future."
